Developing waste management in village communities and associations may seem like a big deal, but the most important thing is to start. You can always improve recycling and composting along the way. Environmental advice Aana Vainion<\/strong> According to the association, developing sorting can also bring savings to the association if sorting can reduce the need for waste management.<\/p>\n

Controlling waste through planning\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Aana feels that the waste hierarchy starts even before waste is created. Even before purchasing a new item, it is worth considering whether it is really needed or whether it could be replaced by borrowing, renting or buying it as a service. Only after this do reuse, repair and recycling come into play.<\/p>\n

\u2013 When we think about recycling and composting, the most efficient and sensible way is to do it where the waste would otherwise be generated. In other words, so-called source treatment is the most efficient method.<\/p>\n

Recycling also brings savings for many associations, as not all of them fall under the scope of municipal waste management.<\/p>\n

\u2013 We sort the waste and take it to a recycling center, or perhaps we reuse the materials that are generated in the operations there.<\/p>\n

Co-composting \u2013 success requires agreement\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Composting raises questions, especially in communities. It is important to first agree on what will be composted, estimate how much waste will be generated, and who will be responsible for managing the compost.<\/p>\n

It's a good idea to think through the entire chain beforehand. The amount of soil produced by compost may surprise you.<\/p>\n

\u2013 First you have to think about whether the place where the soil is to be placed exists. Is the rose bush at the base of which it is to be placed?<\/p>\n

There are a few basic things to consider when composting. The compost should be suitably moist, so that there is the right ratio of carbon and nitrogen. According to Aana, you will notice if the waste is not composting and something needs to be done.<\/p>\n

Where to start?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

A village or association doesn't have to do everything at once. The most important thing is to start \u2013 and to communicate clearly why and how recycling is done.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Of course, starting is important, because if you never start, nothing will come of it. At some point you will realize that now is the time and then you will start taking action.<\/p>\n

A well-designed chain from waste to soil or recycling point makes everyday life smoother.<\/p>\n
