A series of four workshops for associations and residents will be held in April, focusing on urban activism.
– Urban activism means collaborative activities initiated by city residents, organized by themselves and increasing community spirit. It is primarily constructive and functional, not so much opposition to things, although criticism can give rise to activism. In general, the purpose of urban activism is to promote community spirit, citizen participation and the amenity of areas, says Kirsi Mattila, interaction planner for the city of Seinäjoki.
Four workshops will be held during April in the center of Seinäjoki, Ylistaro, Nurmo and Peräseinäjoki. The program is the same for all events, so participants can choose a time that suits them. The organizers are the City of Seinäjoki's vitality and competitiveness department, park services, cultural services, sports services, streets and traffic, and the Seinäjoki Regional Development Association Liiveri ry and Selmu ry.
– The organizers' greetings to the participants are: "We hear your ideas, tell you about funding opportunities, brainstorm with you, and encourage you to develop the city!"
The need for such workshops has arisen by listening to residents and communities and following the general atmosphere both locally and nationally. The workshops are a starting point for building a participation and interaction model for the city of Seinäjoki. The goal of the city of Seinäjoki is to define, together with residents and communities, the principles of participation for the city.
– The City of Seinäjoki wants to be an enabler and partner in various projects that develop community spirit. For example, the city can help with networking and sparring ideas, and encourage residents and communities to implement ideas, says Kirsi Mattila.
