My name is Anna-Sofia Laurila. I am from Lapua and I am in my fourth year studying environmental sciences at the University of Helsinki. My studies have focused mainly on agriculture and forestry. In my free time, I enjoy trotting and being outdoors. I don't feel comfortable in the city at all, and it is a lottery win that I have been able to study mainly remotely from Lapua.
Protecting nature and animal welfare have always been close to my heart, and it has been clear to me since elementary school that I want to study this field. I am particularly interested in environmental advocacy. I was once supposed to become a biology teacher, but this has since turned into a dream of being able to influence the state of the environment in something else, perhaps through politics. However, I have been able to fulfill myself as a “teacher” by working as a school visitor for the Finnish Nature Association. I really enjoy working with children and young people and find it very meaningful. I believe that educating young people is one of the absolute cornerstones of solving environmental problems.
I am very happy that I was able to do an internship at Liiver as part of my studies. My main task at Liiver is to work in the Eco-Acts Together project, where I plan and implement workshops for young people on environmental themes. I also assist in other activities of the project. I am really excited to be working with young people again and raising their awareness of environmental issues. It is great to be able to use my expertise and see what new things I learned during the summer.
