The SeiniorSurf event has been cancelled due to the coronavirus.
According to a recent study by Statistics Finland, more than 60 percent of people aged 65–74 had a smartphone. Correspondingly, less than a third of people aged 75–89 use a smartphone. However, many lack information about the many possibilities that smart devices offer. In order to take control of the functions, many senior citizens need encouragement and guidance on how things happen online.
Ilmajoki Kotopysäkki will tackle a topical topic and organize a SeniorSurf event on March 16. The program of the event, which will be held at Kotokartano, will include a fair-style introduction to the use of various online services, programs and applications.
Digital skills are almost essential these days, as banking and tax matters, as well as applying for compensation and benefits, have moved online. Appointments to the doctor and laboratory, hairdresser or massage can be conveniently made online. It is also difficult to find out about events if you are not on Facebook. Digital tools are also key when it comes to keeping in touch with close relatives who live further away.
The SeniorSurf approach is coordinated by the Finnish Federation of the Elderly. In addition to the Ilmajoki Institute and the Leader Liiverin Kylille project, digital guidance is provided by at least the parish and the library at the Kotopysäkki event. Ilmajoki Institute has received government funding to strengthen digital skills.
