Small actions matter. Liiverin Eco-Actions Together project intern Anna-Sofia Laurila collected five tips to save energy in your everyday life.
- Adjust the room temperature lower. Even a one-degree reduction saves 5 % in heating costsAt the same time, the burden on the environment is also lower.
- Reduce water consumption by investing in water-saving faucets, showerheads and toilets. Heating water requires a lot of energy, so by reducing your water use you can significantly save money and the environment.
- Wash full loads of dishes and laundry. Although newer washing machines adjust the amount of water they use based on the weight of the laundry, electricity consumption still remains roughly the same regardless of how much laundry is in the machine.
- Remember to drive economically when driving. This means, among other things, anticipating situations, avoiding sudden accelerations, and driving at sufficiently low revs. Economical driving reduces fuel consumption and therefore puts less strain not only on the environment but also on your wallet.
- Avoid buying unnecessary things and try to buy as much used as possible. Instead of buying, you can also rent items you rarely need. Reducing consumption reduces the amount of energy and natural resources required in the manufacturing process.
