Könni-Kiikeri-Harjunmäki is a lively community of three villages in the northern part of Ilmajoki, on the border of Seinäjoki Ylistaro. Its heart is the more than hundred-year-old former Harjunmäki school, which the village association acquired and renamed Könni village hall. The village of Vaivaastenneva can be reached via a three kilometer long birch alley. The landscape of our village varies from the plains of Alajoki to Oksivuori, from the observation tower you can see all the way to Ylistaro church. Our area has a total of 300 inhabitants and an arable area of about 1500 hectares. There is 8 km of good speedway from the village hall to the center of Ilmajoki. The distance to Seinäjoki is 20 km.
The village has an active Könni village club, which together with the municipality, the civic college, the parish and the 4H association organizes versatile activities for the villagers. There are various weekly hobby groups at the village hall. There is a well-equipped kitchen and the premises are well suited for meeting use. In addition, various parties, meetings and sales are held at the village hall. The village hall is also rented out to people outside the village for various events. Next to the village hall is a beach volleyball court and a sports field, which in winter, when the weather permits, is frozen into a skating rink. The villagers also have a nearly 20 km network of trails for traditional skiing, which can also be used as a walking route when there is no snow.
The village association offers plenty of different events for the villagers throughout the year: depending on the year, e.g. skiing trips, Easter parade, theater trips, various cuisines and a traditional porridge party during Christmas. In the summer, the young people of the village club open a village kiosk at Harjunpaka, at the end of Vaivaastenneva. In the summer, we also go cycling every Wednesday to get to know an interesting destination as a group.
In the Könni-Kiikeri-Harjunmäki area, the Könni village society, the Harjunmäen-Kiikeri countrymen's society and rural women, the Keskusta local association, the Kylkisalo hunting society, as well as two diaconia districts and SLEY's Kyrönjoki branch operate.
The strength of the village is a good team spirit, its own village hall and plenty of hobby activities. Eteläpohjalaiset Kylät ry awarded the Könni village club as the 2017 South Pohja village of the year.
Our village is especially known for the historic Könni watchmakers. There is still strong entrepreneurship in the region, both in primary production and in other sectors.
The most important development target in the village in the coming years is to further improve the equipment level of the village hall and possibly also build new additional premises. The plot situation is also being mapped.
Vacant construction sites are scarce, but you can inquire about this from Timo Mäki-Välkkilä (0500 560 183).
