Ylistaro's 'comian church' can be seen from afar, no matter where the visitor comes from. It is the first sign that announces that we are now in the beautiful church village of Ylistaro. Kyrönjoki cuts through Kirkonkyla, and the settlement opens up on both sides of the river in a ribbon-like line. The valuable cultural landscape of Kyrönjoki opens on both sides of the church bridge. It includes the area of the old center, a dairy, a multi-purpose building whose history is connected to the beginning of the War of Independence, museum hill and an old cemetery with heroes' graves. The area has the memorials of book collector Matti Pohto and antique collector Salomon Vilskman. The upper side of Kirkonkoski has received a well-deserved fountain. On the other side of the bridge is the working old Kriiku mill with cafes.
In Ylistaro's church village, the services and diverse range of shops are mainly concentrated on Kaukolanrait and its vicinity. Kirkonkyla has a school center, high school, veterinarian, travel service, library and parish hall. Apartments for the elderly are concentrated in the church area. The Ylistaro house has the city's service center and for rent e.g. 60-seat auditorium. The Ojala Parsonage has versatile parish activities for children, young people and families.
Ylistaro's church village has versatile hobby opportunities. The traditional cinema Matin-Tupa offers movie experiences. 4H-Elämysmaailma is located in an early 20th century manor environment and includes e.g. pet park, playground and barbecue shelters. In the Mäki-Pohto hobby center you can find representative hobby places for trotting and riding enthusiasts. In the sports park, it is possible to play e.g. football, tennis, beach volleyball, baseball and athletics. In Kirmaus-Halli you can practice indoor sports, there is a trampoline, a running track, a fitness corner, a long jump place, a cafe and a 150-person grandstand. Outdoor trails with shelters start in the center, where there is also a public beach. The Kyrönjoki canoeing route runs through the center and recreational use of the river is possible in many ways.
The biggest one is Ylistaro Joutopäivät and its numerous side events, such as the Multisport adventure sports competition. The Kirja-Mat literary event is in March and the Filmiä ja valoaa film festival is in the fall. MLL's tenavator is twice a year.
