How can we make the steps turn towards the open spaces in the future? Where can we find the next heroic story? The Southern Ostrobothnia Regional Council is seeking unique proposals for the development of the region through an ideas competition.
One of the campaign's front images is Wanha Markki, Finland's first and only animal retirement home. It is the home of two artists, Liisa-Cristiina and Heikki Laaksonen, and will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year. At first, people were skeptical, with a few exceptions.
– Looking back, it really meant a lot that Liiveri believed in the idea and came to support us, recalls Heikki Laaksonen, the host of Wanhan Marki.
