Long-term work has been done with villages to improve safety and preparedness. In autumn 2026, we will continue to strengthen villages for disruptions by providing assistance, for example, in developing community houses into preparedness centers. We will also implement a provincial village radio network. The work is made possible by the Smart Village Preparedness project, which is co-funded by the South Ostrobothnia Vitality Center and the European Union.
For the past 1.5 years, preparedness has been improved under the theme of 4K – Capable and Sustainable Partner Villages. As a result of the project, the launch of village safety tables has promoted cooperation between municipal-specific safety actors, from authorities to villages. During the spring and autumn of 2025, the framework of community houses was mapped and how the houses would function in possible evacuation situations was investigated. In South Ostrobothnia, the mapping received very comprehensive responses.
In the Liiveri area, during the spring, preparation evenings have been held to consider why, what and how to prepare. The village's sense of community is central to preparation, and in addition, suitable facilities, equipment and expertise are needed. Work on these issues will continue seamlessly from the coming autumn onwards.
First aid training has focused on life-saving activities.
